Polhemus Plug-in for Motionbuilder
Autodesk MotionBuilder is a powerful character animation and motion editing tool. Use the Polhemus Liberty or Patriot to stream data from a live actor into MotionBuilder. This video tutorial will teach you how to map the tracking data being streamed by your Polhemus device onto a MotionBuilder actor, and then animate the actor. Also included is a video showing a user with Polhemus Liberty sensors animating a character in Vizard.
Key steps covered in this tutorial are:
- Adding the Polhemus device in Motionbuilder to bring in tracking data.
- Adding a standing or seated actor to the scene. The following link will provide you with a fbx file of a seated actor.
- Translating the Polhemus root to match any offset of the Polhemus Transmitter from the ground.
- Recording the user T-pose.
- Scaling, translating, and rotating the actor to match the Polhemus markers.
- Adding a fake hip marker. This is necessary if you are not going to have a sensor on the hip.
- Creating a marker set to link the markers to the actor's body parts.
- Real-time animating the actor
MotionBuilder actor using PPT
Autodesk MotionBuilder is a powerful character animation and motion editing tool. WorldViz Precision Position Tracker (PPT) can be used to stream data from a live actor into MotionBuilder. This video tutorial will teach you how to map the optical data being streamed by PPT onto a MotionBuilder actor.
Key-points covered in this video are:
- Loading PPT mocap plug-in
- Adding live marker data to scene
- Inserting & transforming an actor
- Previewing live actor within MotionBuilder
MotionBuilder Live Characters (Vizard)
Autodesk MotionBuilder is a powerful character animation and motion editing tool. Live Characters is a connector product to Vizard that allows real-time stream of live actors into Vizard environments. This video tutorial will teach you how to retarget motion data from an animated actor to a character and then stream that data to Vizard.
Key-points covered in this video are:
- Enabling WorldViz Live Characters within MotionBuilder
- Optimizing character based on actor data
- Configuring live stream device into Vizard
- Sample Vizard script demonstrating how to add Live Characters
PPT mocap plug-in
Learn how to use the mocap plug-in to stream data from WorldViz Precision Position Tracker (PPT) to Autodesk MotionBuilder. With this workflow, you can capture an actor's full body motion with just 5 or 6 PPT markers. MotionBuilder is used to apply inverse-kinematics (reconstructing the missing joint data). The results of MotionBuilder can then be streamed again to Vizard for use with Live Characters or for recording to file to later replaying animations.
The key-points covered in this video are:
- Correctly configuring PPT & plug-in mocap use
- Combining Intersense cubes for higher quality mocap
- Adding MotionBuilder output plug-in
- Correctly reseting T-pose
nVis SX / PPT setup
nVisSX is a high-quality stereo head-mounted display (HMD). PPT & Intersense are high-quality tracking devices that together provide a robust 6 degree-of-freedom solution. This post includes a video tutorial that guides you through each step needed to get your equipment running.
The key-points covered in this video are:
- Setting up PPT with a VRPN connection
- Connecting Intersense locally to the Vizard render PC by creating a merged position and orientation tracker
- Full sample script is provided below the video pane below
Emagin / PPT setup
Emagin is a low-cost stereo HMD. PPT & Intersense are high-quality tracking devices that together provide a robust 6 degree-of-freedom solution. This post includes a video tutorial that guides you through each step needed to get your equipment running.
The key-points covered in this video are:
- Setting up PPT with a VRPN connection
- Setting up active stereo (using nVidia control panel)
- Connecting Intersense locally to the Vizard render PC by creating a merged position and orientation tracker
- Full sample script is provided below the video pane below
